Cultivating
Flavour is the first complete guide to
kitchen gardening in southern
Africa and is designed to ensure you survive the
twenty-first century with gastronomic style. Written for
kindred spirits
,
Cultivating Flavour takes the reader on a shared
journey of discovery through season after green season
of planting, cropping, preparation and cooking. Cultivating
Flavour is based on the experience
of author and horticulturist Toni B Walters as
she learnt, hands-on in her garden at Lizard’s Leap,
how to separate fact from loamy fiction. Armed with
her new diploma and all the theory in the world,
Toni quickly learnt that she couldn’t grow a cabbage
and so began a personal quest that was to transform
not only her garden but her entire approach to
growing and eating the freshest of food. Cultivating Flavour is much more
than a gardening manual. A richly illustrated fusion
of cultivation and culinary delight, it deals with garden
location and design, soil management, crop options and
rotation, sensitive pest and disease management, container
planting and plant propagation. Most importantly, Cultivating
Flavour is about growing a beautiful, productive
and environmentally friendly garden – an edible
landscape – with the minimum of time and effort.
After all, kindred spirits value their time as much
as the taste of freshly-picked, pesticide-free food,
and Cultivating Flavour comes to the party
with 47 stunning recipes to make the most of produce
picked in the moment. Browse through
